EVENT INFORMATION:

Since 1936, young women have competed in the Miss South Carolina Competition to win the title and go on to take part in the Miss America Competition. Launched in Myrtle Beach, the Miss South Carolina Pageant moved to Greenville and Spartanburg before settling in its current home in Columbia in 2011 at the historic Township Auditorium.

The Miss South Carolina Scholarship Organization is one of the largest providers of scholarships to young women in the state. The competition is an official licensee of the Miss America Organization, emphasizing individuality, personal development, talent performance, communication skills, and physical and mental health. Each year, Miss and Teen delegates compete for more than $250,000 in scholarships, with the titleholder receiving a $60,000 scholarship package. The organization also raises significant funds annually for the American Heart Association.

The competition includes five phases held over several days: interview, onstage question, evening gown, fitness, and talent. The top finalists from these preliminary competitions advance to compete on the final night of Miss South Carolina.

Columbia's home for the pageant, the historic Township Auditorium, is a three-story Georgian Revival theater built in 1930 that has won multiple awards for its preservation, renovation, and restoration. The Township Auditorium was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
